The Man Bites Email Framework is built on my R3 book & Framework. Since implementing it, every list with over 1,000 people on it has an average open rate above 75%. That the entire sequence, not just the first few emails. Interestingly, Substack is the only exception. Due to the way it’s built we can’t fully implement the strategy, but we use Substack to serve a different function.
The framework is simple, has three steps and doesn’t require any copywriting skill. Note: You can apply this framework to any conversation - email, messenger, etc.
1. Bring The Goods. This should go without saying, but I need to say it anyway; you need to have something people want. It can be something they want to learn, something they want to watch for entertainment, it doesn’t matter what it is - but it has to be something the people on your list actually want (not something you want them to buy - something they want)
2. Set The Stage. Set the stage right up front. The very first email is the most important email - by far. It’s your opportunity to build up “allegiance capital”. This is covered in the R3 book.
The welcome or confirmation email has three components:
A reason and reminder to reply to the email
Give them the next step
Tell them how the sequence is set up and what’s coming
3. The Set Up. Each tools/software is slightly different, but they all have the functionality to set up your emails this way.
Wait until the previous email was opened
Wait the amount of time specified in the previous email
It’s that simple. If you do this right now your email open rate will probably go up - probably significantly - and so will your deliverability.

There are two components to getting the first email opened. The good news is that they are simple and you still don’t need to have any copywriting skills.
The first is the confirmation page. Most people hurt themselves with the confirmation page - sometimes by missing the important components of it and sometimes by having way too much on it.
The second is an R3 concept called “Two Plow Horses”. Most businesses use the right tools to do this, but they do it wrong and it actually tanks their open rates.
