How can I be the next Laurel?
This is a question I get asked four or five times a week, and it's always a bit tricky to answer.
In this context, people aren’t asking how to become more like Laurel—though, truth be told, that’s a pretty solid aspiration. Instead, they want to know what they can do to earn my support and the support of my partners, just as I do for Laurel and her work.
The answer is never simple, because Laurel has earned my respect—and the respect of my partners—by consistently doing the things I value most:
Asking great questions
Engaging the field before diving into questions
Asking effective questions that emerge directly from her experiences with reality and field engagement
These three things not only make it easy to take her calls—they make me genuinely eager to answer them.
When I first met Laurel, everyone told her she was doing her business wrong. After just one conversation, it became obvious to me that she wasn’t doing it wrong—she was doing it differently. And not just different in the way most businesses try to stand out, but lightyears ahead of what the so-called "experts" were telling her.
At the time, she only had about $6,000 in the bank. But Laurel trusted me, ignored the noise from so-called experts, and stuck to her vision.
That was over five years ago.
Today? She’s made millions in her business, working less than ever before. And the experts who once told her how wrong she was? Well, now they’ve spent the past four years either trying to get her help by joining her program or simply ripping off her strategies.
